Lewis Latimer
1848 – 1928
Son of formerly enslaved parents who escaped from Virginia. Self-taught draftsman. Drafted the patent application for Alexander Graham Bell's telephone. Patented the carbon filament that made Edison's incandescent bulb commercially viable. One of the original twenty-eight “Edison Pioneers.”
