Madam C. J. Walker

1867 – 1919

Born Sarah Breedlove on a Louisiana cotton plantation two years after Emancipation. Built the largest Black-owned business in the country at the time of her death. Among the first self-made woman millionaires in American history. A significant funder of the NAACP, the YMCA, and anti-lynching activism.
