Medgar Evers

1925 – 1963

WWII veteran. Mississippi's first NAACP field secretary. Led voter-registration drives across the state. Investigated the 1955 murder of Emmett Till. Assassinated in the driveway of his Jackson home by a white supremacist on June 12, 1963, hours after President Kennedy's televised civil rights address.
