Muhammad Ali
1942 – 2016
Born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. in Louisville, Kentucky. Olympic gold medalist, 1960. Heavyweight champion of the world three separate times. Refused induction into the Vietnam draft on religious and political grounds in 1967; stripped of his title and conviction overturned by a unanimous Supreme Court in 1971. Presidential Medal of Freedom, 2005.
